Embedded board uses both PolarFire and SmartFusion2 FPGAs

HES-MPF500-M2S150 Development Kit is the industry’s first to carry devices from Microchip’s PolarFire and SmartFusion2 FPGA families.

Even if a design is only be targeted at the PolarFire FPGA, the SmartFusion2 device is available to be set up as an embedded host and test driver, or vice versa for a SmartFusion2 design. On the board, the low power PolarFire MPF500T FCG1152 FPGA has 481k logic elements, 1480 math blocks, 33Mbits of RAM, and 584 I/Os, along with high-security features. The SmartFusion2 M2S150 FPGA is the other FPGA integrated on the board. This SoC device features an embedded Arm Cortex-M3 MCU subsystem with DDR3 memory controllers.

The two FPGAs are connected with direct I/Os, with both devices having direct access, through a PCIe switch, to a PCIe x4 Gen2 Edge Connector, allowing the FPGAs to work together or independently. Both the PolarFire and SmartFusion2 have high-speed serial I/Os via the QSFP+ ports. The SmartFusion2 can also use Ethernet or USB to communicate with the outside world.

The board can connect to peripherals through an FMC HPC connector with 134 I/Os and 8 high-speed serial I/Os.
