Atmel’s SAM D20 series is based on the low-power ARM Cortex-M0+ core and integrates features such as high-precision 12-bit analog and internal oscillators, up to eight 16-bit timer/counters, real-time performance, peripheral event system, and flexible clocking options and sleep modes. The series is designed for use in home automation, consumer, smart metering and industrial applications.

The complete development toolchain IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM includes the IAR C/C++ Compiler, assembler, linker, librarian, text editor, project manager, and C-SPY Debugger in an integrated development environment.

The toolchain provides optimizing build tools and extensive debugging and analysis possibilities such as complex code and data breakpoints, runtime stack analysis, call stack visualization, code coverage analysis and integrated monitoring of power consumption. Added by the recently released version 6.60 is support for IAR Systems’ I-scope probe, which is used together with the in-circuit debugging probe I-jet and adds capabilities for current and voltage measurements. The measurements supply developers with knowledge about the power consumed by individual modules and allow them to optimize their applications for power consumption, hereby making full use of the energy-efficient features of the SAM D20 series.

Support for the SAM D20 family is available using IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM, version 6.60 and later.

More information about the tools, and free evaluation licenses, are available at www.iar.com/ewarm.
