EMI pre-compliance testing with PC software
Under EMI directives and depending on the device to be certified, it is mandatory to measure the frequency range between 150 kHz to 1 GHz or up to 3 GHz or 6 GHz. CISPR16 is the most important specification for manufacturers of test equipment, because all requirements for the measuring instrumentation are specified there, as well as details of how the measurements have to be performed.
The simplest form of pre-compliance measuring of radiated emissions can be performed with a Spectrum Analyser such as Rigol’s DSA815 with its bandwidth of 1.5 GHz, and near field probes for E-fields (electrical) or H-fields (magnetic). All Rigol Spectrum Analysers can be equipped with EMI filters and Quasi Peak Detectors. Option DSA800-EMI is available for the models DSA815 (1.5 GHz), DSA832 (3.2 GHz) and DSA875 (7.5 GHz) and enables the EMI Filter and the Quasi Peak Detector. The DSA1000 series with the models DSA1030 and DSA1030A (both 3 GHz bandwidth) offer this feature as a standard without additional costs. If customers have already purchased DSA1000 series instruments, this feature can also be activated by a firmware upgrade to the latest version at no charge.
Rigol’s new PC Software offers the possibility of automating the pre-compliance testing. The software includes Limit-Check/Peak-Search and performs a pre-scan and the final-scan. All limits/settings and results can be stored and also a final test report can be generated. The software is compatible with all Rigol Spectrum Analysers.
By combining the right measurement instruments with the software and standard accessories, it is possible to build a flexible and reasonably priced EMI Pre-Compliance test system. The basic investment remains in an affordable price range, Rigol says, below €4,000.
