Encapsulation barriers and coatings on a CAGR of 26% till 2021, says Smithers Apex
“A large fraction of the drivers influencing this market are driven by the evolution of the technologies involved. In many cases there is already market ‘pull’ for these developments – such as for flexible products that facilitate new design form factors. In other cases there is manufacturing demand– such as for products that will enable roll-to-roll processing. In the area of consumer display and wearable electronics, particularly, there is a seemingly insatiable demand for innovative products”, reports the author Alan Hodgson.
The market study sees the global demand for high barrier films and coatings in printed electronics accelerating through the 2016-2021 period.
Hodgson expects the rising use of electronic materials that require protection from moisture and oxygen to expand today’s market value ($61.2 million) to $192.4 million in 2021, at a CAGR of 26%.
Expansion will occur principally in the large-area display segment, where sales will increase in parallel with rising demand for both OLED and quantum dot-enhanced LCD screens, says the report.
