Energous has received full FCC certification for its 2W wireless power transmitter system, making it the industry’s first certified transmitter available at this power level.

The design of the Energous 2W PowerBridge transmitter enables the delivery of up to 8W Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) in the 900MHz band. This must be authorized under the FCC’s equipment authorization rules and are subject to the technical and operational requirements of Part 15 and/or Part 18 of the FCC rules.

This allows connected devices such as sensors and tags to continuously receive critical enterprise data from cloud networks at distance and without wires, batteries, or cables, ensuring they are reliably charged at all times. These transmitter systems act as data links for IoT-enabled devices, enabling them to efficiently communicate valuable data and insights back to the cloud, and allowing companies to analyze, optimize, and improve every part of their supply chain operations in real time.

The 1W wireless power version was approved in Europe in 2021, and the 2W transmitter system is designed for next-generation, enterprise IoT applications which require power over a distance.

The transmitter system combines two high-efficiency power amplifiers with a System-on-Chip (SoC) RF transmitter to create a wireless charging infrastructure that enables continuous data streams from mobile IoT devices into business critical applications.

The proprietary antenna design enables it to transmit higher radiated power—up to 8W Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP)—and dual polarization, delivering up to 99 percent visibility of all connected devices.

This makes the Energous 2W transmitter well suited for large-scale industrial applications where asset tracking and monitoring across multiple zones is critical to operations, including supply chain visibility, cold chain monitoring, fleet management, and temperature and humidity monitoring.

With this certification, Energous 2W PowerBridge transmitter systems will enable WPNs that safely and efficiently deliver continuous access to wireless power over-the-air and at distance while enabling a constant stream of real-time data for all connected devices, such as sensors and tags.

Energous moves to second phase of consumer wireless power network

“The FCC certification of the Energous 2W PowerBridge transmitter system underscores our commitment to advancing wireless power technology and building a more sustainable future by enabling the next generation of battery-free innovations,” said Daniel Lawless, SVP of System Operations and Regulatory Affairs, Energous Wireless Power Solutions. “By achieving this certification, the Energous 2W PowerBridge ensures compliance with regulatory standards, offering a safe, cost-efficient, and reliable solution for creating WPNs that enable unprecedented levels of visibility, control, and intelligent business automation for enterprise supply chain applications.”

“Congratulations to Energous for securing all appropriate FCC approvals for their 2W PowerBridge transmitter system which, as an essential part of a wireless power network, delivers wireless power to IoT sensors at greater distances,” said Sanjay Gupta, President, AirFuel Alliance. “This certification is a testament to the growing adoption of wireless charging across the entire value chain. It will simplify deployment, reduce cost, and accelerate growth of the AirFuel RF wireless power ecosystem – and bring us one step closer to building a world where industry can power up without plugging in.”

Energous is one of the first companies to receive FCC certification for its wireless power solutions and its products are now certified in more than 110 markets.
