The Belgian Federal Government is the sole shareholder of the Federal Holding and Investment Company (SFPI-FPIM), which manages the Belgian government’s shareholdings, and pursues investment policy in the interest of the Belgian economy.

EpiGaN was founded in 2010 as a spin-off from the IMEC research institute and raised its first capital round of €4 million in 2011 allowing it to start volume production of GaN-on-Si epitaxial material for power, RF and sensor electronics. EpiGaN produces wafers engineered with epitaxial GaN layer structures deposited on 150mm and 200mm diameter silicon substrates, in particular with in-situ silicon-nitride passivation, which enables more robust high-performance devices.

The size of the capital increase led by FPIM was not disclosed. FPIM was joined by existing investors LRM and Capricorn Cleantech Fund.

“We are extremely pleased to add FPIM, the respected Belgium Federal Holding and Investment Company, as the fifth investor in EpiGaN. This investment will support our efforts to execute our strategy towards offering turn-key solutions and services to our global customer base,” said EpiGaN co-founder and CEO, Marianne Germain, in a statement.
