Epishine teams for US market
Swedish indoor solar cell specialist Epishine has signed a deal with Powerfilm Solar to power IoT systems for the US market.
The deal, described as strategic, will see Powerfilm Solar use the Epishine roll-to-roll solar cells for indoor applications from IoT devices to smart home technology.
- Epishine aims to be world’s largest solar cell maker
- €5m to boost roll to roll solar cell production
- Epishine replaces CEO to focus on growth
“Joining forces with PowerFilm Solar is a great match for several reasons,” said Anders Kottenauer, recently appointed CEO at Epishine. “Their standing as leaders in thin, flexible solar cells enhances our vision of transforming how electronic devices are powered by introducing sustainable, efficient, and innovative solar solutions for ultra-low-light indoor environments.”
This collaboration will introduce Epishine’s flexible solar technology to a broader audience in the US and tap into PowerFilm’s robust distribution network and market expertise.
“Epishine’s innovative approach to solar technology is exactly what we look for in a partner. Their unique solar cells, ideal for ultra low-light indoor use, complement our portfolio of indoor solar technology and help us lead the way in custom sustainable energy solutions in the US,” said Said Daniel Stieler President of PowerFilm which is based in Iowa.
PowerFilm has proprietary manufacturing that provides custom amorphous silicon panels that work in any light environment, including transportation, indoor and industrial lighting for many IoT sensor applications.
Epishine has also been testing its indoor solar cells with microcontrollers from ONiO.zero in Norway. The microcontrollers are designed for energy harvesting applications and have displayed cold start capabilities of a few seconds.
