Quantum computer startup Equal1 Ltd. have launched a silicon-based quantum server computer called Bell-1.

The company claims the server fits seamlessly into datacenters and plugs into a standard electrical socket and consumes 1.6kW.

The unit is designed to augment classical computers and functions as a 6-qubit processor alongside CPU and GPU workloads. It contains a closed-cycle cryo-cooler that allows the machine to operate at 0.3K without the use of external dilution refrigerators.

Future versions of the Bell Quantum Server computer will integrate control, readout and error correction monolithically.

The unit comes in a standard 600mm by 1000mm by 1600mm rack and weighs about 200kg.

“We’ve taken quantum technology out of the lab and into real-world environments where it can drive innovation and solve complex computational challenges. This is the dawn of Quantum Computing 2.0 – where accessibility, scalability and practicality take centre stage,” said Jason Lynch, CEO of Equal1, in a statement.

The Bell-1 computer rack is available and shipping to customers.
