The Wireless Smart Ubiquitous Network (Wi-SUN) nodes will combine Rohm’s sensor technology with low-power microcontrollers from Eta Compute for products for smart utility networks and the IoT.

The Wi-SUN Alliance has a four-tier membership structure and grew by 60 percent in the last year and has more than 180 members.

“By focusing on Wi-SUN compatibility, we are providing essential components for large-scale outdoor networking required for smart cities and a diverse range of applications in an intelligent IoT,” said Paul Washkewicz, vice president and co-founder of Eta Compute, in a statement.

The Rohm-Eta nodes will be designed to draw less than 1 microamp and about 1 milliamp when sensing. The nodes will be compatible with Wi-SUN technology, which is based on the IEEE 802.15.4g standard.

Rohm’s portfolio of sensors that detect environmental/physical conditions and networks for transmitting and sharing sensor data are essential for achieving IoT and for the development and deployment of next-generation sensor networks.
