Data acquisition and processing is considered essential for the realisation of software-defined vehicles. For this reason, ETAS and PLC2 Design plan to jointly develop an overall solution that enables the realistic validation of sophisticated customer software in the AD/DA environment. The plan is to enable customers to provide solutions for software-defined vehicles faster, safer and more efficiently.

ETAS’ portfolio includes basic vehicle software, middleware and development tools for the realisation of software-defined vehicles. PLC2 Design, headquartered in Freiburg, Germany, offers design services and develops products related to FPGA and embedded systems. In addition, PLC2 Design is a provider of professional training and education around the embedded market, specialising in AMD/Xilinx technologies. The cooperation with the Bosch subsidiary ETAS was preceded by close collaboration between PLC2 Design and the Bosch Cross-Domain Computing Solutions division. Joint projects have resulted in open and modular solutions that can now be offered to all OEMs and Tier1s.

With the partnership, ETAS will complete the measurement technology portfolio in the areas of In-Vehicle Data Pre-Processing and Edge Computing / High-Performance Data Logging. PLC2 Design will enter the global market via the ETAS sales structure and will focus on its main field of innovative product development. As a result, ETAS and PLC2 Design will be able to offer a complete solution for data measurement directly at the data source, data logging and data analysis from a single source.

The products added to the ETAS portfolio include the ADL-1000 as a high-performance, low-power and customisable data logging system and edge accelerator, as well as the PLC2 Grabber Card PGC-1000 – a high-performance PCIe card for offloading computationally intensive algorithms to relieve the burden on commercially available data logging systems. This enables the use of mid-range PCs even for demanding development tasks and reduces the need for costly multiprocessor computers. Likewise, an FPGA-based IP core (PLC2 L5) for lossless video compression and decompression for a variety of applications on edge devices and in the cloud with data reduction of up to 60 percent.

The existing and future PLC2 Design product portfolio is to be marketed in the automotive market exclusively via ETAS as a system component of an overall solution. In order to put the cooperation on a long-term basis, ETAS has acquired a minority stake in PLC Design in an undisclosed amount.
