Ethernet analysis features in timing design, analysis, verification tool update
This is, Luxsoft says, a major release for its Symtavision timing analysis solution for planning, optimizing and verifying embedded real-time systems, which comprises SymTA/S and TraceAnalyzer tools. Symtavision 4.0 features added function level analysis and Ethernet network analysis upgrades targeting significantly improved timing analysis of automotive ECUs, networks and distributed systems.
For ECU timing analysis, Symtavision 4.0 adds a data flow visualization capability in the SymTA/S toolset, which allows fast and easy analysis of the software and communication architecture. With the help of interactive filters, the data flow graphs can be tuned to show the right level of abstraction enabling full exploration of system performance at the function architecture level.
Symtavision 4.0 also includes extensions to the Ethernet network timing analyses in SymTA/S. Buffer occupancy in Ethernet switches can now be undertaken at the buffer level, allowing the validation of switch memory and thereby reducing the risk of dropped frames due to buffer overflows. The addition of end-to-end jitter metrics provide an early hint as to the real-time capability of individual messages and helps to identify potential data losses at the receiver.
To support the automated testing of automotive ECUs and networks (CAN, FlexRay, Ethernet), both the SymTA/S TraceAnalyzer tools in Symtavision 4.0 offer advanced comparison of actual versus target behaviour, facilitating fast verification of measurements against the expected behaviour from the model.
Symtavision 4.0 offers usability improvements, including updated interfaces to trace tools such as Gliwa, iSYSTEM and Lauterbach, and copy-and-merge of elements between models, as well as performance improvements.
“Robust timing analysis of ECUs, networks and distributed systems becomes ever more crucial as the complexity of automotive electronics continues to grow,“ said Marek Jersak, Director, Luxoft Automotive UTH Practice, adding “…as timing design, analysis and verification of automotive electronics continues to shift towards increased driver assistance and the automated driving domains, we have continued to push the boundaries with the launch of Symtavision 4.0.“

Symtavision has been developing and marketing SymTA/S and TraceAnalyzer since 2005. In 2016, Luxoft acquired Symtavision to combine Symtavision’s leading timing analysis tools and EE architecture expertise with Luxoft’s leading know-how and capacity to execute large embedded SW development project globally.
Luxoft’s Under-the-Hood (UTH) practice offers solutions and services for powertrain, chassis, steering, body, and in-vehicle networking domains. It works with the classical domains OSEK, AUTOSAR and CAN, which evolve into highly-integrated domain control units with hypervisors, RTOS and Ethernet communication. Large parts of this software are real-time, safety-critical and strongly coupled with a growing number of assistance functions, leading to complex and highly integrated software systems. Luxoft offers a complete software delivery and architectural planning service from a single source, including timing and safety analysis. This is done by combining core competencies in architectures, real-time and safety with cost-optimized development capacities.
