European member states have approved plans to impose tariffs on imports of battery electric vehicles from China
The European Commission’s proposal to impose definitive tariffs on imports of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) from China is Commission’s anti-subsidy investigation, it says.
In parallel, the EU says it is working ‘hard’ with China to explore an alternative solution that would have to be fully compatible with the World Trade Organisation and address the impact Chinese subsidies had on European car makers.
A Commission Implementing Regulation including the definitive findings in the investigation must be published in the Official Journal by 30 October 2024, at the latest. The Commision had also been in negotiation over Tesla vehicles built in China and sold in Europe.
