Reuniting no less than eighteen European research partners, the project’s main objective is to develop a Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) light engine for sensing and security applications. QCLs cover a broad portion of the mid-infrared (MIR) spectral range – from 3 to 12 μm. This is an especially interesting range, as many chemicals of interest for safety and security have strong characteristic absorption lines in that range which act as fingerprints that enable their identification.
