European Chips Act funds persuade ChipFlow to relocate to Spain
ChipFlow Ltd. (Cambridge, England), a startup developing an open source semiconductor chip design platform, is moving to Spain to benefit from European Chips Act grants and tap into Spanish engineering talent.
ChipFlow was founded in 2021 and has been headquartered in Cambridge, England. The company has now announced it is moving its base to Barcelona, Spain.
The company has said it is moving to unlock opportunities for talent development, funding and collaboration. The company said that the move was “natural” when it became apparent that EU Chips Act grant eligibility would benefit from the move.
In a statement the company said: “ChipFlow is a remote-first company with 15 employees, split between the UK and continental Europe. As we continue to expand and drive the commercialization of open-source EDA tool design enablement, Spain will now be our focus point for team growth supported by the EU Chips Act grants focused on open source EDA tooling and design platforms.”
“Moving ChipFlow to Spain marks an exciting step forward for our company. Spain’s commitment to semiconductor innovation, alongside its growing talent pool and supportive ecosystem, makes it the perfect place for our next chapter. We will be onboarding our first hires in Spain this month and we look forward to working closely with local partners, universities, and industry leaders,” said Tomi Rantakari, CEO of ChipFlow, in a statement.
