Farnell element14 University IoT Challenge results announced
The winner was University of West London’s (UWL), Dr Ying Zhang, who is a senior lecturer in Computer Science at the University’s School of Computing and Engineering. Dr Zhang designed ear defenders that can dampen background noise, while amplifying important sounds. The design uses the IoT to protect workers’ hearing without compromising on safety.
Dr Zhang was chosen from three finalists who had been selected by Farnell element14 from all entries. Dr Zhang’s design was chosen as winner through the online poll. He received a prize of £5,000 worth of parts and components to build the design, and a test and measurement bundle from Rhode and Schwarz for UWL to use in IoT projects. The prize was awarded to Dr Zhang by Alison Knapp, CEM Account Manager for Farnell element14 and Phillip McCluskey, Sales Engineer, University Business Development for Rohde & Schwarz.
Dr Zhang will keep the community up to date on the project at the link below.
