Standard thyristors for main AC line supply applications running at 50/60 Hz are widely used for rectifying and control solutions and are available in many circuit combinations and package styles. For higher frequency applications that have to rely on thyristor technology, there is a growing demand for thyristors with fast or semi-fast turn-on and low reverse recovery performance.
“Turn-off times (tq) clearly below 100 microseconds underline the capabilities of the IXYS’ Fast and Semi-Fast Thyristors while maintaining excellent performance in terms of low forward drop voltages, low leakage currents and power density,” said Dr Elmar Wisotzki, Director of Technology for IXYS Germany. “These Fast- and Semi-Fast Thyristors provide higher reliability and field proven ruggedness in their surge current capability, with junction temperatures up to 150ºC.”
Growing demand for faster rectifying applications means IXYS will further develop its portfolio in this area, he says.
