Ferroelectric memory devices prevent data loss in automotive applications
Infineon Technologies launches new 8- and 16-Mbit Excelon F-RAM memories with the industry’s highest density. The 8- and 16-Mbit Excelon F-RAM (Ferroelectric RAM) memories meet the permanent data acquisition requirements of next-generation automotive and also industrial systems. They thus help prevent data loss in harsh operating environments.
The new memories support a wide voltage range from 1.71 V to 3.6 V and a data throughput of up to 54 MB/s via a low pin-count interface. In addition, they are available in a RoHS-compliant 24-ball FBGA package.
“With increasing automation and the rapid development of networked sensors, data acquisition requirements are growing and with them the need for higher density memories that can reliably and immediately capture data permanently in the event of a power failure,” said Ramesh Chettuvetty, head of the RAM product line in Infineon’s Automotive Division. “Our new Excelon F-RAM products deliver performance and reliability in critical data acquisition applications without sacrificing ultra-low power operation.”
Infineon’s Excelon F-RAM is the next generation of ferroelectric RAM memory. These new products offer the industry’s most power-efficient permanent memory for critical applications by combining ultra-low power operation with high-speed interfaces, instant non-volatility and unlimited read/write cycle endurance. The read and write performance of the serial memories is equivalent to battery-backed static RAMs with parallel interface and 35 ns access time. With its high write speeds, long lifetime and industry-leading energy efficiency, the Excelon F-RAM is an ideal memory for data recording in automotive applications, but also in industrial and medical electronics applications.
Infineon offers a portfolio of serial and parallel F-RAM products with memory densities ranging from 4 KBit to 16 MBit, supporting an operating voltage range from 1.8 V to 5.5 V. The F-RAM products are available in a wide range of power supplies. They feature a virtually unlimited lifetime of one hundred trillion read and write cycles, making them an ideal solution for write-intensive applications. These memory devices are suitable for applications that require high-performance, highly reliable and cost-effective permanent memory solutions.
The new industrial-grade 8- and 16-Mbit Excelon F-RAMs can be ordered now in a 24-ball FBGA package and support operating temperatures up to 105°C. The AEC-Q100 qualified, automotive-grade 3 16-Mbit devices can also be ordered now and are available in the same 24-ball FBGA package.
