Stephan Tarnutzer, hitherto Vice Presicent Electronics at FEV North America, has been appointed director of the Center of Excellence. “Through the integration of new functionalities, interfaces and components, development tasks for OEMs and service providers are becoming increasingly complex,” said FEV Group CEO Stefan Pischinger. “This requires not only setting up focused expert teams but also benchmarking data bases and powerful tools”. From the perspective of development, the increasing vehicle connectivity translates into countless new functions and features, providers and development tasks are created.

Integrating more and more cloud-based features into vehicles also makes cyber security an increasingly important aspect. The more interfaces a vehicle is equipped with, the more vulnerable it will be. FEV therefore develops specific Cyber Security Gateways. These devices will be connected to the vehicle’s internal communications bus and can detect and prevent malicious attacks. In addition, they can assume the function of a firewall between external interfaces and the in-vehicle data bus and prevent cyber attacks.
