3D UWB radar SoC offers 1.8 GHz programmable bandwidth
ARIA Sensing has launched “Hydrogen,” a groundbreaking UWB radar SoC that sets a new industry benchmark as the first to offer 3D beamforming with programmable bandwidth up to 1.8 GHz. As a result, Hydrogen can use different center frequencies to operate worldwide without compromising resolution.
The “Hydrogen” UWB SoC uses advanced waveforms that support both single-pulse and pulse-compression capabilities, delivering unparalleled precision in radar sensing applications. This enables Hydrogen to optimize the Signal-to-Noise Ratio in every detection task, while keeping radiated power incredibly low. Equipped with two integrated RISC-V microprocessors, the chip ensures robust performance and flexibility for a variety of use cases, while cutting down BOM costs.
Four transit and four receive UWB channels deliver flexible and scalable array configurations for optimized 3D imaging and radar detection. Advanced 3D beamforming enables accurate depth perception and spatial resolution for sophisticated sensing environments, while the programmable bandwidth of up to 1.8 GHz enhances adaptability across different sensing applications and environments, including:
- People tracking: provide the position of people in the environment.
- Fall detection: detect fall events.
- Contactless vital signs: measure heart beat rate and breathing.
- Automotive: driver vital signs and in-cabin people counting.
- Gesture recognition: detect gestures and control appliances.
Hidden anti-intrusion sensors: detect intruders with hidden sensors, even through walls.
UWB is the ideal technology for high-precision, low-cost and low-power radar sensors.
Sensing does not require active transponders. UWB devices require less power and operate at lower frequencies than other high-resolution radar devices.
UWB also removes the need for acquiring optical images acquired, making it the ideal technological platform when privacy is a concern. Detection is unaffected by operating conditions such as fog, smoke, lighting or clothes, and UWB signals provide the best capability of passing through unwanted obstacles.
High resolution provides a rich set of information of the environment to address the most demanding applications. Vital signs detection, gesture recognition are all possible with the same device with UWB technology
ARIA Sensing offers four modular offerings tailored for both 2D and 3D radar applications, ensuring versatility and seamless integration into diverse markets, including automotive, industrial automation, and smart home technologies.
“Hydrogen represents a paradigm shift in radar technology, combining cutting-edge UWB advancements with compact SoC design,” said Alessio Cacciatori, Founder and CEO at ARIA Sensing.
