First acquisition for Python developer boosts AI
STX Next, Europe’s largest Python software developer, is to buy a local specialist in AI and machine learning software development in its first such deal.
The ‘acqui-hire’ deal to buy Ermlab Software in Poland will enhance STX Next’s existing AI and ML capabilities and expand the company’s expertise in natural language processing (NLP) and further strengthen its status as a software development powerhouse.
Former Ermlab Software CEO Krzysztof Sopyla will take on the role of Head of Machine Learning and Data Engineering, while former CTO Przemysław Górecki will be Head of Service Delivery at the new office in Olsztyn, Poland. This will become STX Next’s eighth office location.

Founded in 2014, Ermlab Software delivers data analysis solutions that support the handling and processing of large amounts of data. Ermlab looks to guide businesses through the possibilities of AI and advise on how they can exploit machine learning in their systems and products.
“Ermlab is a company we’ve paid close attention to for the last couple of years,” said Maciej Dziergwa, CEO at STX Next. “From the very beginning, we were focused on transparency and finding a win-win arrangement between us, and after a few highly stimulating conversations, the owners of Ermlab decided to join forces with us,”
“It was very important to us that we found a business that was both a culture and competence fit and that’s exactly what we’ve found in Ermlab,” he said. “The acqui-hire will be instrumental in helping us in our further growth, which includes plans to open a new office in Rzeszów and expand our operations into a new continent, in Mexico. We aim to continue strengthening our broad portfolio of services so that we can grow from our current 500 staff to over 2,000 in the next few years.
Krzysztof Sopyla, CEO of Ermlab, said: “STX Next has grown significantly in the past decade, not just in terms of its head count, but in its client base and capabilities. During our initial conversations, we were hugely impressed with the STX Next team’s energy, enthusiasm and intellectual insight.
“When speaking to Maciej, we were surprised by how well he understood where Ermlab was as a business, and the ideas he had for helping us grow further. After some analysis, it became clear to us that being part of a growing organisation would be instrumental in helping our people to develop faster.
“Both companies share the same outlook on where our industry is heading, which is why STX Next is the ideal home for Ermlab. We’re extremely excited to be joining Maciej and his team in becoming part of STX Next and look forward to the opportunities this will offer for customers and our staff.”
