First look at Nordic’s “cellular made easy” nRF91 low-power solution
Nordic hopes that the nRF91 series will provide an accessible solution to bring cellular connectivity to the wider market as an option for uses outside mobile telephony. The nRF91 SiP is a full, low-power cellular IoT system in a 10x16x1.2mm package that includes the modem, transceiver, RF front end, dedicated application processor, Flash memory, power management, and crystal and passive components. The device operates globally using multimode LTE-M / NB-IoT technology in a single SiP package.
Qorvo has acted as a strategic partner on the project for the RF front-end, packaging and MicroShield technology. The devices are powered by an Arm Cortex-M33 host processor with TrustZone for Armv8-M and A-GPS. Nordic also integrates the processor with Arm CryptoCell-310 security IP for an even more secure solution.
The nRF91 SiP is based on Nordic’s nRF91 Series low power cellular IoT System-on-Chip (SoC). The chip was developed from scratch to optimize the power, cost, and size savings enabled by the LTE-M and NB-IoT cellular standards.
