Teledyne e2v has qualified the first four channel 12bit analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) for space designs.
The EV12AQ600 12bit ADC support 1.6GSample/s each channels, or 6.4GSps across a single channel when interleaved and is reconfigurable in orbit via a cross-point switch after the inputs.
The ADC part withstands a total ionizing dose (TID) of 150kRad for long-term missions or GEO satellites. In addition, the ADC was tested for multi-axis mechanical shock and vibration as well as electro-static discharge (ESD), extreme temperature and thermal cycling test procedures to meet NASA and ESA requirements and comply with the MIL-PRF-38535 (QML-Y) and ESCC 9000 standards.
The EV12AQ600 can be reconfigured remotely as the number of channels, the sample rate and the dynamic range can be altered via an accompanying FPGA. FPGA design libraries are available for project development based around the Xilinx ecosystem (XQRKU060) for space implementations.
This flexibility also enables design re-use in a platform that can be adapted to a wide range of applications.
