Storage device supplier Kioxia Europe has begun shipping samples of its Automotive Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 3.1 devices with embedded flash memory. The new product range uses the company’s own BiCS FLASH 3D flash storage, which is available in sizes from 64 to 512 GB. In this way, the new memories meet the requirements of the ever-evolving automotive applications and in this way improve the driving experience.

“Storage needs for automotive applications continue to grow as in-vehicle infotainment systems and ADAS become more sophisticated,” said Axel Störmann, Vice President Memory Marketing & Engineering at Kioxia Europe. “UFS is ideally suited to meet the performance and storage density requirements of these applications.”

The new devices support a wide temperature range (-40°C to +105°C), meet the requirements of the AEC-Q100 Grade2 standard and offer improved reliability features over previous products, which are required for increasingly complex automotive applications.

Both the sequential read and write performance of the automotive UFS 3.1 memory have been improved by 2.2 and 6 times, respectively, over the previous generation. These performance improvements result in faster system start-up and enable over-the-air updates (OTA).
