Memory vendor Neumonda GmbH (Bad Homburg, Germany) has joined forces with Ferroelectric Memory Co. (Dresden, Germany) to help sell FMC’s ‘DRAM+’ non-volatile memory.

Neumonda, which holds several patents in the design and testing of DRAM memory, will support FMC with memory consulting services and with its Rhinoe, Octopus, and Raptor test platforms for FMC’s non-volatile DRAM+ products. The two companies will work together on the design and provision of test solutions and the marketing of DRAM+.

FMC has not said when DRAM+ will become commercially available, who will make the memory chips in what configurations, or on what manufacturing node. FMC does state on its website that its DRAM+ product range can be used for AI training, industrial, automotive and consumer applications. It also mentions a Cache+ product line that extends the DRAM+ idea to non-volatile cache memory in chiplet form.

FMC was formed in 2016 as a spin-off from NaMLab GmbH, an incubator company within TU Dresden.

“FMC was founded to exploit the disruptive invention of the ferroelectric effect of HfO2 for semiconductor memories. Applied to a DRAM, it turns the DRAM capacitor into a low power, non-volatile storage device while maintaining the high DRAM performance to produce a disruptive non-volatile DRAM memory ideal for AI compute,” said Thomas Rueckes, CEO of FMC, in a statement. “Since our technology is unique in the market, cost-effective testing of our memory products is of great importance for our product offerings. With Neumonda and its radically new approach to testing, we have found a partner that can help us speed up the development of our products. We also are excited to work with Neumonda as we share the common vision to bring memory back to Europe.”

“As our test platforms are maturing, FMC’s products are an ideal test ground to prove the capabilities of our Rhinoe, Octopus, and Raptor testers, as well as the high-quality yield they enable,” said Peter Poechmueller, CEO of Neumonda.
