The contest will last 24 hours and start one day ahead of the conference, on November 2. During the contest, developers have access to the SYNC program code. The contest is an opportunity to develop entirely new ideas for SYNC apps. The contestants however can participate also if they just adapt existing iOS or Android apps to Ford’s AppLink system that integrates such apps into SYNC.

“Smartphones are central to our lives – at home, at work and increasingly in the road traffic”, said Scott Lyons, Business and Partner Development, Connected Vehicle and Services at Ford of Europe. “Innovations from outside the automotive industry can therefore contribute significantly to improve driving experience and comfort in the car.”

At the same time, Ford announced a new app for SYNC with Applink that enables safely using social networks while travelling. Meople.Connector is compatible with both iOS and Android and enables users to access social media websites. Thanks to speech control, drivers can stay connected with friends and the rest of the world without taking their hands off the wheels and their eyes off the road.

During the Web Summit which will take place from November 3 to November 5 in the Irish Capital, Ford’s chairman of the board Bill Ford will hold a keynote speech on Apps in Cars. Registration deadline for the contest is October 31.
