More than 100.000 Ford customers across Europe have chosen the comfortable option, currently available for the Focus, C-Max and Grand C-Max models. This parking assistant system automates the parking procedure almost completely. Based on information from ultrasonic sensors, the parking assistant allows parking even in very tight spots: It manages to maneuver the vehicle even in gaps just 20 percent bigger than the vehicle itself. At the same time it significantly reduces the risk of collisions during the procedure, explained Ford engineer Kay Mueller. All the driver needs to do is to shift to reverse and control the speed by hitting the gas and pedals; the steering wheel is controlled by the electronic assistant and the EPAS electric power steering system.
According to Ford, 39 percent of Focus models built have been equipped with the parking assistant. The C-Max and Grand C-Max have seen an even higher acceptance – about 66 percent of the vehicles sold came with the comfort function. Since its introduction, 102.460 vehicles equipped with the active parking assist have been sold.
