Form, fit and function replacements for obsolete power supplies
A recent example involved the recommissioning of an ion implant system used in semiconductor device fabrication. Replacing the over 20-year-old power supplies without the need to modify the system chassis or control systems required a custom designed power supply.
The replacement product supplied made use of a modern high efficiency AC-DC “brick” module with an additional current limit circuit and an external output voltage adjustment circuit via a 10-turn potentiometer fitted to the front plate to allow it to function exactly as the original power supply. The new power supply has a 90-253 VAC universal input allowing the original input voltage select link to be removed and provides a 48VDC output at 7.5A.
“We have many years’ experience of manufacturing custom and added value power conversion products. Offering this expertise to users of legacy systems by providing form-fit-and-function replacement power supplies ensures critical and capital equipment can continue in service for many more years improving ROI and avoiding unnecessary replacement costs,” said Tim Worley, Chief Executive Officer of Powerstax.
Powerstax designs and manufactures an extensive range of standard, value-added and custom AC and DC power solutions for a broad range of fixed and mobile applications including hot-swap front-end AC-DC bulk power, DC-DC converter bricks and modules and programmable, modular, rack mounted power supplies. The Drake range of transformer rectifiers offer output currents to 5,000A and output power up to 1000kVA and beyond. Power solutions are available for harsh (marine, offshore, desert) and hazardous (Zone 1 and Zone 2) environments and can be oil, air or water cooled and can be sealed up to IP65 if the environment dictates with purge and pressure systems and heat exchangers incorporated if required
