
Foundries grow faster than IC market, says IC Insights
And the foundry market is set to show another 14 percent increase in 2014, compared to 7 percent rise for the overall market.
And out of that foundry market, the pure-play part of it, increased even faster, by 16 percent to $36.2 billion in 2013. Meanwhile foundry sales from integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) increased by 2 percent to $6.6 billion in 2013 IC Insights classes Samsung, IBM and Fujitsu as IDM foundries. IDM foundry sales are forecast to grow 3 percent to $6.8 billion in 2014.
Over the period 2013 to 2018 IC Insights forecasts the pure-play foundry market will experience a compound annual growth rate of 12 percent compared with a CAGR for the total IC industry of 6 percent.
