Free simulation tool efficiently optimises robot cells
Universal Robots (UR), a leading cobot company and a part of Teradyne Robotics, has launched UR Studio, a powerful online simulation tool to optimise robot cells built on the company’s PolyScope X advanced, open and AI-ready software platform.
With UR Studio, users can test robot movements, simulate reach, speed, and workflow, and calculate cycle time, making it easy to configure an optimised cell and maximise return on investment before deployment even starts.
“It’s all about confidence and ease of deployment,” says Tero Tolonen, Universal Robots’ Chief Product Officer. “Whether you are new to automation or an experienced customer optimising a complex robot cell, you want assurance and certainty before making the final decision on your system. With UR Studio, we now provide an intuitive, easy-accessible tool to simulate and visualise the end-user setup and thoroughly test the cell and its capabilities — mapping out details for maximum efficiency and performance.”
UR Studio enables users to interact with the company’s robot portfolio and various components, including pallets, machines, and workpieces, as well as end effectors such as standard grippers frequently used with UR cobots. Items can be configured to the user’s preferences with the option of importing elements that replicate the workspace. This ensures the final system integrates smoothly into the real-world environment, leading to more efficient deployments and quicker return on investment. UR Studio also enables the early identification of potential issues, reducing downtime and preventing costly adjustments.
UR Studio is provided free of charge and runs directly on desktop browsers, requiring no installation – users simply log into the UR Studio website to get started. Its intuitive interface allows effortless navigation of the simulated environment, with pre-made templates for common applications such as machine tending, screwdriving, palletising, and pick-and-place, allowing for quick setup and configuration of the virtual robot work cell. New application templates will be added on a continuous basis.
UR Studio is designed to work closely with the PolyScope X software platform, which is built to support simulation from the ground up, bridging the gap between concept and operation. It is initially available in English and will soon be released in German, Spanish, Chinese (simplified), and Japanese.
