The TC80310 connects to the ECU through a one-wire LIN bus. Thus, the ECU can request several en energy management modes, resulting in lower energy consumption. The TC80310 SoC gets along with very few external components and assumes the function of alternator voltage regulation. In addition, the device optimizes the charging cycles.
Developed in close cooperation with alternator manufacturers, the TC80310 is based on Freescale’s versatile SmartMOS mixed-signal process technology which supports a combination of analog, digital and power circuits. Thus, developers can implement application specific standard products with a maximum of programmability. Using 20 one-time programmable memory functions implemented on the chip, alternator manufacturers can adjust efficiency and energy consumption of the electronic device. With this feature, the LIN-based alternator controller meets the demand for standard components while at the same time enabling designers to optimize the system according to their needs, said Freescale manager Gavin Woods.
During the final test of the chip, the nominal voltage of the device can be adjusted between 10.6V and 16V. Through this value, the alternator manufacturer can adjust the battery voltage for optimal behavior and maximum lifetime of the car battery. At the same time, the charging system can benefit from faster reaction time once the LRC (Load Response Control) deactivation frequency has been reached. LRC suppresses sudden adjustment processes of motor speed and torque caused by load swings and resulting vibrations. In addition, LCR ratio and deactivation frequency can be adjusted for best operation conditions via LIN instructions.
Further features of the TC80310 include an integrated high-side driver, internal recovery diode, overtemperature protection, thermal drift compensation, LIN 1.3 interface, and autonomous operation in the case of a LIN bus interruption.
