The company stated that by using its modular Tower system it is better able to support the large number of companies entering the market. The system will initially support Freescale’s low G inertia sensors and accelerometers, while other MEMS sensors such as barometric pressure sensors will be supported soon. The package also comes with software support, which includes low level drivers for the sensors.

Using the Tower system, OEMs are expected to be capable of developing a full production-ready solution for the automotive market. While the Tower development system already supports Freescale’s MEMS sensors targeting consume applications, the company says there is a ‘huge’ difference between those and the sensors developed for the automotive market, although it believes it may open up new opportunities in industrial applications.
