GE Digital, Bosch join forces for Industry 4.0
Besides moves to achieve more interactivity among IoT platforms, Bosch and GE agreed upon integrating their software universes of the GE Predix operating system and the Bosch IoT Suite. In this context, Bosch’s Software Innovation division and GE Digital, the IoT subsidiary of General Electric, will make available mutually supplementary software services on the respective cloud platform of both companies. Thus, customers will have access to a greater choice of integrated cloud technologies for their IoT applications, Bosch said in a press release.
Both parties also intend to develop IoT basis technologies based on open source software, enabling customers to develop open source based IoT application platforms. These technologies will be supplemented through an ecosystem jointly created by Bosch and GE. The technological basis for the collaboration will be the Eclipse Foundation, one of the world’s largest open source communities. Both partners are members of Eclipse. The collaboration will at least initially focus on projects dedicated to device interconnectivity, like Eclipse hono, Eclipse Vorto and Aclipse ACS as well as in the area of GE-driven User Account and Authentication.
In more or less all IoT applications, devices and machines are connected to some kind of backend computing resources where data and functionalities are aggregated, enabling value added services for users. The contributions of numerous IoT software developers in the Eclipse Community will create open tools and standards from which many others can benefit, the companies said.
