Genivi becomes Connected Vehicle Systems Alliance
In the 12 years of its existence, the electronic environment in the vehicle has developed rapidly. The Genivi Alliance – around which it had been somewhat quiet lately – cannot escape this, so it has now expanded its remit. Its topics now include in-vehicle on-edge and in-cloud services, interfaces and data exchange with backend and cloud entities.
Covesa’s core principles are based on openness, collaboration, innovation and the expertise each member brings to the alliance, according to the grouping. Covesa will focus on its new vision to create a more diverse, sustainable and integrated mobility ecosystem through the development of open standards and innovative technologies for connected vehicles.
Covesa will build on the foundation of Genivi, which includes a vehicle signal specification and cloud-connected services, and encourage members to launch projects that deliver specifications, licensed open source software and related materials that will provide industry with useful resources for developing commercial solutions.
There are currently several active technology projects, including the Common Vehicle Interface Initiative (CVII), the Android Automotive Special Interest Group (SIG), the Vehicle Payments Special Interest Group (SIG) and the Automotive Cybersecurity Team.
Covesa members include OEMs such as BMW, Daimler, Honda and SAIC as well as tier one suppliers (Alps Alpine, Aptiv, Bosch to name just a few) and technology companies such as Analog Devices (ADI), Arm, Nvidia, NXP and Renesas.
