The deal includes an earn out provision that could make it worth up to $40 million, depending on Nanotech achieving certain revenue targets over the next year, Gennum (Ontario, Canada) said.

Gennum said the deal strengthens its growth strategy in the optical transceiver IC market by adding CMOS products and technology for high volume applications such as Ethernet, PON, telecom and consumer optics. The deal will provide Gennum with an increased market presence in an expanded, $1.3 billion addressable market, according to the company.

"We have listened to our customers’ needs to simplify the supply chain and can now provide them with one of the most complete optical transceiver ICs portfolios spanning all data rates," said Franz Fink, Gennum president and CEO, in a statement.

Nanotech (Bristol, UK) is focused on analog and mixed-signal ICs principally for fiber-optics based communications.
