Gesture sensor market booming
The market analysis company predicts that by 2019 the annual market will comprise 2.5 billion units shipped in consumer electronics and information technology devices.
While touch-screen technology works well for smartphones and tablet computers it is less well suited to things like large-screen televisions and some newer applications created to exploit gesturing, the company reckons.
Gesture sensing technologies include time-of-flight optical, stereo vision and structured IR light.. These will make up 66 percent of the sensor unit shipments in 2015. 3D depth sensing is starting to play in notebook computers with the introduction of Intel’s RealSense technology. In the notebook application 3D depth sening is forecast to grow by 43 percent in 2015.
