Get your IT infrastructure assessed for free
But the StorTrends iDATA (Intelligent Data Analysis Tracking Application) resulted to be so useful to help customers figure out what their real storage needs are, that AMI made the decision to provide it as a free software download.
The tool provides an accurate assessment of IT infrastructure performance, capacity and throughput requirements. It measures all of the necessary components of an IT infrastructure, assessing pain points in an environment before they become disruptive.
Running in the background to capture a full week of data changes, backups and performance, the tool then generates an output file emailed to a StorTrends Engineer who will review the captured performance metrics and generate a detailed StorTrends iDATA report.
“We are allowing anyone to use this tool for free, but we get the data so that we are able to offer a one-on-one solution, helping IT administrators interpret the data. This allows them to perform a check on their infrastructure, without buying into the hype of over provisioning”, told us Justin Bagby, director of the StorTrends Division at AMI.
“It is a free service for now, but in the near future, we’ll charge for it” he added.
Key metrics include capacity utilization, IOPS usage, reads versus writes for volumes, network bandwidth performance, server statistics and application info.
The tool eliminates the guess work on storage media provisioning, it allows customers to make educated IT infrastructure improvements by knowing their active or hot data versus their inactive or cold data. This is a main pointer for the customer to determine if their applications require All-Flash, Hybrid (mixture of SSD & HDD) or all Spinning Disk.
The StorTrends iDATA tool can be ran on users existing setups in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments, to identify the user profile as a Light, Medium, Power Standard or Power Heavy user. This allows for the proper selection of server compute and storage (i.e. physical CPU, virtual cores CPU, memory, SSD capacity and quantity) to ensure the required performance.
