Gleichmann Electronics becomes European representative of NEC’s optical transceivers and magneto-resistive sensors
As part of a wide-ranging sales and support agreement, Gleichmann Electronics will also take over the support of OEM customers previously supported by NEC Electronics Europe and Renesas Electronics Europe for those products.
“We chose Gleichmann Electronics as our reliable partner in European market based on its outstanding sales activities and extensive engineering expertise on our products, something unusual for a distribution partner. We believe, with this new partnership, combining the strengths of both companies, we can further increase businesses in European market,” said Tomokazu Ito, General Manager Fiber Optic Devices Division NEC, about the cooperation between the two companies, which will become even closer in the future.
A focal point of NEC FODD is the development and production of optical transceivers for such markets as access systems, backbone systems, client interface, and data center. With more than 30 years’ experience, NEC is among the pioneers and technology leaders in these markets and offering state-of-the-art products like Digital Coherent transceivers and Low Power Compact-SFP transceivers
Another NEC FODD product sector that is growing quickly and showing great promise is magneto-resistive sensors. Thanks to their reliability and vibration resistance, the bounce-free switching MR sensors, which were originally designed for cellular phones and Laptop PCs, are well suited as a substitute for reed relays. In industrial applications such as drive technology, MR sensors are increasingly being used as an alternative to the widespread Hall sensors or as position switch for the connection to pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders.
MR sensors are also a cost-effective yet highly-precise solution for speed and flow measurements, for example in gas/water Smart Meters. "Thanks to the leading technological position that NEC FODD occupies with regard to MR sensors, we see enormous growth potential in these markets in future years, especially in Europe," said Klaus Hagenacker.
