The three-month average of annual growth was 9.1 percent compared with 9.6 percent in October. The market was stronger in the Americas and Asia-Pacific regions where the averaged market grew by 11.1 and 12.3 percent respectively. But it was dragged down by weakness in Europe and Japan. The European market grew by 3.4 percent while the Japanese market contracted by 4.5 percent.

The three-month average of worldwide sales of semiconductors reached $29.67 billion for the month of November 2014, an increase of 9.1 percent from the November 2013 total and a slight decrease of 0.1 percent from the October 2014 total. Year-to-date sales through November are 10 percent higher than they were at the same point in 2013.

Monthly data is given by the SIA as a three-month average, although the WSTS organization tracks actual monthly data. The SIA and other regional semiconductor industry bodies opt to use averaged data because it evens out the actual data that typically show troughs at the beginnings of quarters and peaks at the ends of quarters.

"Global semiconductor sales through November have matched the total from all of 2013, assuring that the industry will achieve a new record for sales in 2014," said Brian Toohey, CEO of the SIA, in a statement. "Demand remains strong across nearly all semiconductor product categories, and the Americas and Asia Pacific regional markets continue to post the most robust growth. Macroeconomic trends bode well for continued growth into 2015."
