Global communications module gets 2G fallback
The addition of 2G capability means that SARA solutions can be added in geographical areas that currently do not have LTE Cat M1 and NB-IoT connectivity. Quad-band 2G ensures that the SARA-R412M module can still be used anywhere in the world until LTE Cat M1 or NB-IoT is available. The module also offers dynamic system selection to allow the system to choose the best way to communicate without rebooting. A preferred option is available and the system is also capable of switching between preferred and dynamic modes without a reboot.
u-blox claims the SARA-R412M is the world’s smallest single module that can support both LTE and quad-band EGPRS. The device features the same size and pin-outs that are found in other members of the SARA range, allowing an easy upgrade migration path to developers. As expected for devices used for IoT applications, the module offers comprehensive security options, including two way authentication between client and server. Updates can be delivered over the air using u-blox’ proprietary uFOTA (firmware over the air) client/server solution through LWM2M.
