GF Singapore fab recognized as advanced manufacturer in Global Lighthouse Network
GlobalFoundries (GF) has joined the World Economic Forum’s Global Lighthouse Network (GLN), with its 300mm fab in Singapore recognized for advancing Industry 4.0 and AI-driven smart manufacturing. The designation highlights GF’s role in scaling digital transformation across its global chipmaking operations.
For eeNews Europe readers, this showcases how one of the world’s largest foundries is applying AI and automation to strengthen semiconductor supply chains and boost manufacturing competitiveness in Europe and beyond.
AI and Industry 4.0 in action
Since 2020, GF has deployed more than 60 smart manufacturing solutions across its global fabs in the US, Europe, and Asia. These include AI-driven analytics, IoT monitoring, and machine learning models that help optimize cost, quality, and productivity. In particular, the Singapore site, now part of the Global Lighthouse Network, has become a focal point for this digital transformation, hosting GF’s AI Center of Excellence and spearheading projects that support the wider company’s manufacturing roadmap.
The company says these initiatives are not just about improving throughput but also about ensuring sustainability, safety, and agility in chip production. Moreover, to build momentum, GF has partnered with universities, solution providers, and government agencies, developing a pipeline of digital talent and co-creating future-ready solutions.
Strategic importance for chip supply
Membership in the Global Lighthouse Network gives GF a platform to exchange best practices with other advanced manufacturers. “Our digital transformation is instrumental in accelerating GF’s ability to deliver differentiated, essential chips that power AI growth and adoption, while meeting the demands of fast-evolving markets such as mobile, automotive, and IoT,” said Niels Anderskouv, president and chief operating officer at GF. “By re-engineering operations through digital innovation, we lead with agility, delivering trusted, high-quality semiconductors with speed and reliability. This strategic evolution unlocks scalable growth and long-term value for our stakeholders.”
Kiva Allgood, Managing Director and Head of the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Supply Chains at WEF, added: “The organizations that will shape the future are those driving holistic transformation today, embedding digital innovation, resilience, sustainability, talent development, and customer centricity into everything they do. Congratulations to the new Lighthouse cohort that demonstrates how forward-thinking companies across industries and segments are putting this vision into action, setting a new global standard for operational excellence and impact.”
Singapore as a semiconductor hub
The Lighthouse recognition also underscores the strategic role of Singapore in GF’s global operations. “This milestone signifies GF Singapore’s critical role in GF’s global manufacturing footprint, alongside our world-class facilities in the U.S. and Dresden,” said Yew Kong Tan, senior vice president and general manager, APAC Manufacturing and Singapore Site at GF. “At GF’s AI Center of Excellence in Singapore, we are advancing the adoption of Industry 5.0 from 4.0, reshaping our workforce with the latest digital solutions for the current and next-generation talent, and building a robust digital ecosystem to fuel innovation through strategic partnerships.”
With continuous investments in advanced manufacturing, GF is reinforcing Singapore’s position as a key semiconductor hub—one that complements its European and American fabs while contributing to the broader shift toward digital-first manufacturing in the semiconductor industry.
