Global, Siltronic wafer deal nears deadline despite Chinese OK
However, the deal may still fail because Siltronic and GlobalWafers have not received any information from German authorities as to whether the deal will receive its approval. The terms of the deal require that all closing conditions, including receipt of relevant approvals, are met by January 31, 2022.
GlobalWafers is one of the three largest silicon wafer manufacturers in the world. Its product applications extend through power management, automotive, IoT, memory, sensors and MEMS. The company operates out of 15 facilities in Taiwan, Japan, USA, Korea, Italy, Denmark, Malaysia, and China.
A combination of GlobalWafers and Siltronic would create the world’s largest wafer supplier with about one third of the global market.
GlobalWafers said it is continuing to cooperate with the German regulator with regards to merger review procedures and aims to close the transaction in early 2022.
