Google Glass to extend Hyundai’s dashboard functionality
Google Glass will make some enhanced reality functions developed for the mobile devices world available to Hyundai uses. The display will show information relevant to the driver along with safety and service information. In addition, the glass functions as display for in-vehicle infotainment functions. Scheduled for availability later this year in Hyundai’s next-generation vehicles generation, these functions will be available initially for a limited number of Google Glass users.
Most of these functions however will also be available to drivers of Hyundai’s upcoming Genesis vehicle generation without Google Glass. The integration of these functions with the Google Glass device technology and Hyundai’s Blue Link telematics system is based on Covisint’s cloud-based application platform.
The functions available on these platforms include remote engine start, remote door open and close, searching for Points of Interests through the GPS system, vehicle status data including diagnosis and service information, expanded breakdown assistance and setting up garage appointments.
In addition to these personalized functions, the Covisint platform enables customers to add future services. Automotive OEMs thus can improve their user experience.
The Hyundai Genesis 2015 model will be presented at the upcoming NAIAS show later this month.
