Nigel Toon, the co-founder and CEO of AI chip company Graphcore Ltd. (Bristol, England), has written a book titled How AI Thinks and is embarking on a series of promotional events through most of 2024.

The full title of the 320-page book is How AI Thinks: How we built it, how it can help us, and how we can control it and it is set to be published on February 8, 2024 by Torva/Transworld, a Penguin/Random House company with a recommended retail price of £22.

Toon states on Linkedin that he has written the book to try and address a lack of understanding and the resulting fear that many people have of the topic. He states that while there are many text books written by AI experts for other technical readers they usually require a level of mathematical and computer science knowledge that most people lack. Toon reckons his book is for everyone with a natural curiosity about AI.

Toon starts off the book promotion with a Times Radio interview on Saturday February 10.

Other events include:

  • Just about Books in Bristol on February 20
  • Harrogate International Festival – Harrogate, UK, February 22
  • Mobile World Congress – Barcelona, Spain, February 27
  • The Guernsey Literary Festival in May
  • Charleston Festival – Lewes, UK in May
  • Felixstowe Book Festival – Felixstowe, UK in June
  • Buxton International Festival – Buxton, UK in July
  • Leeds Festival of Ideas – Leeds, UK in October

Details can be found on Toon’s personal website with more events to be announced.
