Graphic display controllers for HMI development available from RS

RS Components will stock Bridgetek’s two new graphic display controller ICs that are intended to enable next-generation graphics displays for human machine interface (HMI) applications.

The third generation of embedded video engine (EVE) devices, BT815 and BT816 support display, audio and touch capabilities to provide a way to design high-resolution displays and robust HMI solutions with low BoM cost.

BT815/816 series architecture can add display capabilities to a range of 8-, 16-, or 32-bit MCU systems over the SPI interface. The object-oriented approach offered by the controllers develop a displayed image, which can then be rendered line by line by the EVE solution, leading to a quick method of developing static and animated displays with full touch control.

The BT815/816 series add a dedicated Flash port, complementing the on-chip 1Mbyte RAM, for storing and accessing additional display assets. ASTC (Adaptive Scalable Texture Compression) decoding is also now supported, extending the usability of available memory. The bitmap compression algorithm allows larger font tables, animations and other display objects to be applied more efficiently.

Both ICs have video playback capabilities and support graphics rendering for SVGA resolutions up to 800 × 600-pixel screens: the BT816 offers support for displays with four-wire resistive touchscreens; and the BT815 is designed for use with capacitive touchscreens offering multi-touch operation.
