With increasing processing power year-on-year, robots are able to perform more complex tasks or simply able to follow movement routines with a higher degree of precision. But from a robotics point-of-view, precision alone is only a good approach if the programmer fully controls all other external parameters (the position, shape, size and consistence of the objects being handled, human operators who may be present etc…) Precision and force applied without tactile feedback could have disastrous consequences in environments where robots are to operate in direct contact with humans, for example as assistants.
