‘Hats Off’ Challenge promotes head-worn electronic designs
Based on the Adafruit GEMMA, a tiny Arduino-compatible sewable microcontroller capable of lighting up a constellation of LEDs based on simple sensors and actions, competitors will be encouraged to develop hat-like garments that provide functionality beyond shielding the wearer from sun or rain.
Along with the Adafruit GEMMA, the competitors in the challenge will be provided with the Adafruit Micro Lipo – USB LiIon/LiPoly charger – v1, a 3.7v 500mAh lithium ion polymer battery, four Flora RGB NeoPixels V2, stainless thin conductive thread, a photo cell, small alligator clip test leads, the GEMMA miniature wearable electronic platform, a USB cable for A/MiniB, a tactile on/off switch with leads, a fast vibration sensor switch and small enclosed piezo w/wires.
The recruitment period will conclude the 4th August for a total of 10 competitors to be selected to build their designs and blog their findings at the element14 design community.
The competition will conclude 31st October 2014.
