HDR boost for 4K multiscreen video waveform monitor
Occupying a half-rack-width by 4U high housing, the Leader LV5490 now offers 4K, UHD, 3G, HD and SD test and measurement features in a compact portable unit. Waveform, vector, five-bar and picture display can all be viewed at the same time on the LV5490’s 9 inch LCD monitor.
The monitor is full 1920 x 1080 HD resolution with a wide viewing angle and high colour reproduction and a 1920 x 1080 HD DVI and HD-SDI rasterized output is also provided to feed a larger monitor. Simultaneous viewing of up to four SDI inputs is possible, including overlays, and the size and location of individual channels can be adjusted on the display using a USB mouse so the user is not limited to fixed-size quadrants.
The LV5490SER07 HDR option enables the LV5490 to measure both 4K and HD HDR in ITU.BT.2100 Hybrid Log Gamma, Dolby PQ or Sony SLOG-3 protocols. With the latest software, version 3.2, the LV5490 now incorporates five-bar display capabilities. Incoming SDI signals are converted into five cyan bargraphs providing simultaneous display of maximum and minimum luminance, red-component, green-component, blue-component and composite levels. Gamut errors are displayed as red excursions beyond the legal thresholds.
Correct adjustment of luminance level using bar 1 as a reference provides a fast and easy way of checking that a picture is optimally exposed, avoiding highlight clipping or crushing. The R, G and B graphs (bars 2, 3 and 4 respectively) are supplemented by a highly visible alert if any colour components are out of gamut. Bar 5 provides similar warning of positive or negative levels being exceeded if the output is integrated for delivery as a composite channel. Each bar is displayed as a linear percentage scale. Supplementary features include line selection and display, a low-pass transient-error filter and a range of user presets.
In its multiscreen mode, the LV5490 can display five-bar and additional user-selected reference content such as R, G and B waveforms on its internal monitor or rasterized output. Other options include an HDR display using Leader’s highly intuitive CINEZONE false colours to highlight areas of concern when operating with HDR content. The Leader HDR display supports SMPTE ST2084 (Dolby PQ curve), ARIB STD B-67 (BBC/NHK Hybrid Log Gamma) and SLOG3. The 12G-SDI connectivity option supports 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI quad link, 3G-SDI dual-link and HD-SDI, each input handling a quarter of the 4096 x 2160 pixel 4K or 3840 x 2160 pixel UHD image. The interface also incorporates a reclocked 12G-SDI output. 12G-SDI eye pattern with jitter measurements will be available as an option.
There is also analysis of high frame-rate 4K signals at up to 8x real-time, for use with high speed cameras typically deployed to provide slow-motion playback during sports broadcasting, as well as support for Sony’s IP Live Video, and the Networked Media Interface technology.
Version 3.2 software is now part of all newly delivered LV5490 instruments and is available as a free download to the existing customer base. Leader’s CINELITE II toolset (comprising CINELITE and CINEZONE) also comes as a standard feature, allowing easy assessment of relative exposure and overall luminance during production. A focus assist option allows highly accurate on-set adjustment of camera focus to match the 4K format’s ability to handle very precise image detail.
