With its high degree of integration, the A5950 enables smaller, less complex designs compared to discrete solutions.

The connections at the input are used to control the speed, direction of rotation and the torque of a DC motor with externally supplied PWM control signals. Internal synchronous rectification reduces power losses during PWM operation, and a power-saving standby mode increases efficiency. Also integrated are protection circuits against overcurrent, motor short-circuit against ground or supply; A thermal cut-off with hysteresis, undervoltage monitoring of VBB and protection against crossover currents. The diagnostic functions include an analog output which is used to monitor the current through the external measuring resistor and an open-drain FAULTn output.

The A5950 is shipped with the Betable Flank (Appendix “-J”) or the 16-pin eTSSOP (Appendix “LP”) in the flat 4 mm × 4 mm, 16-pin QFN housing (Appendix “EU”). Both housings provide an Exposed Pad for improved heat conduction.
