100V MOSFETs with reduced spiking add LFPAK56 and LFPAK88 packages
Nexperia has expanded the package options for its NextPower 80/100 V MOSFETs for high switching efficiency with reduced spiking.
The devices were previously only available in the LFPAK56E package but are now available in LFPAK56 and LFPAK88 for telecommunications, server computing, industrial, power supply, fast charging, USB-PD and motor control applications.
The Qg*RDSon figure of merit has long been a focus for semiconductor manufacturers aiming to improve the efficiency of MOSFET switches. However, this can increase the spiking levels when a MOSFET switches on or off, increasing the amount of generated electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Nexperia identifies this as an emerging issue and developed the NextPower 80/100 V MOSFETs with lower Qrr (reverse recovery charge). This significantly reduces the amount of spiking during switching transitions while exhibiting the same high-efficiency performance as other MOSFETs but with lower EMI.
Adding the LFPAK56 and LFPAK88 package options allows designers to reduce application size and benefit from the added robustness of copper clip packaging, and opens up the opportunity to qualify additional sources for existing designs.
