Honda, which is aiming to merge with Nissan, is bringing its software defined vehicle (SDV) developments into its mainstream business.

The organizational and operational changes to its business will see the Automobile Business Strategy Unit and the SDV Business Development Unit, which currently belong to Electrification Business Development Operations, integrated into Automobile Operations from April 2025. This a key indicator of the maturing and adoption of SDV technology across the company.

At the same time a new division, Automobile Development Operations, will be created alongside Operations, to develop new technology and products. This will combine the EV development functions of Electrification Business Development Operations and the ICE (internal combustion engines) development functions.

The EV development and SDV developer were previously separate operations.

This follows the launch of the Series 0 electric vehicles with a coupe and SUV at CES 2025 earlier this month that will go into production later this year. It also signed a deal with Amazon Web Services for SDV development.

In October 2024, Honda announced two global electric motorcycle models in Indonesia: the CUV e: powered by two units of Honda Mobile Power Pack e: swappable batteries; and the ICON e: powered by a fixed battery. The CUV e: is scheduled to go on sale in 20 countries including European countries and Japan.

In November, Honda announced two electric motorcycle models designed exclusively for India: ACTIVA e: powered by two units of Honda Mobile Power Pack e:, and the QC1 powered by a fixed battery. It plans to begin operating a dedicated electric motorcycle production plant in India in 2028.
